Barges

1. Out of my window looking into the night
I can see the barges’ flickering light.
Silently flows the river to the sea
And the barges too go silently.

Barges, I would like to go with you,
I would like to sail the ocean blue,
Barges, have you treasures in your hold?
Do you fight with pirates brave and bold?

2. Out of my window looking into the night
I can see the barges’ flickering light.
Starboard shines green and port is glowing red,
I can see them flickering far ahead.
Barges, I would like to go with you…..

3. Out of my window looking into the night
I can see the barges’ flickering light.
Harbour ahead and anchorage in view,
May I find my resting place with you.
Barges, I would like to go with you…..

4. Away from my window, on into the night,
I will watch till they are out of sight,
Taking their cargo far across the sea,
How I wish that some day they’d take me.
Barges, I would like to go with you…..

Land of the Silver Birch
(an echo song)

Land of the silver birch, home of the beaver,
Where still the mighty moose wanders at will,

Blue lake and rocky shore,
I will return once more,   (& echo)
Boom didi I di, Boom didi I di,
Boom didi I di  booooooom

My heart is sick for you, here in the lowlands,
I will return to you, hills of the north,
Blue lake…..

Swift as a silver fish, canoe of birch bark,
Thy mighty waterways carry me forth,
Blue lake….

There where the blue lake lies, I’ll set my wigwam,
Close to the water’s edge, silent and still,
Blue lake….

On My Honour
On my honour I will try,
There’s a duty to be done and I’ll say aye,
There ‘s a reason here for a reason above,
My honour is to try and my duty is to love.

People don’t need to know my name,
If I’ve done any harm then I’m to blame,
If I’ve helped someone then I’ve helped me.
I’ve opened up my eyes to see.
On my honour….

I’ve tucked away a song or two,
If you’re feeling low there’s one for you,
If you need a friend then I will come,
And there’s plenty more where I come from.
On my honour…..

Come with me where the fire burns bright,
You can see even better by candle-light,
You can find more meaning in campfire glow
Than you’ll ever know in a year or so.
On my honour….

We’ve made a promise to always keep,
We’ll sing ‘Day is Done’ before we sleep,
We’ll be Girl Guides together and when we’re gone,
They’ll still be a-trying and a-singing our song.
On my honour….
